ecoEnergy LogoecoEnergy Retrofit Grant

As of April 2007, Natural Resources Canada is offering a rebate to homeowners who take steps to improve the energy efficiency of their homes, thereby reducing their impact on the environment. ecoENERGY Initiatives help Canadians use energy more efficiently, boost renewable energy supplies and develop cleaner energy technologies. Under this new ecoENERGY retrofit, homeowners who replace existing doors, windows, and skylights with newer units rated for their Energy Star climate zones are eligible for a $30 grant reimbursement per opening.

How does the grant process work?

Prior to making your renovations, book an appointment for an in home energy assessment from a NRCan certified energy advisor. To find a list of certified advisors in your area, please visit here.

After completing an assessment of your home, the advisor will provide you with a personalized checklist of action items that can help you reduce your energy consumption, which may include replacing your existing windows and doors.

To qualify for a grant, ensure that the new units you purchase from All Weather Windows meet the requirements for your Energy Star climate zone. After you have completed your renovations, you need to have a post-retrofit evaluation done on your home. Since you need to prove to the evaluator that your windows and doors are in fact Energy Star certified for your climate zone, it is important that your newly installed windows carry an Energy Star label or that you have a copy of your invoice indicating the product model and series you purchased.

Once the evaluator has assessed your home, they will prepare the paperwork for you and tell you how much of a grant rebate you can expect to receive. Your evaluator will then submit the grant to NRCan on your behalf. It is important that your grant application is submitted no later than 18 months after your initial assessment. You should receive your cheque within 90-days of your follow up-assessment.
