V-weld: Technology for the Elements

V-weld is the technology of the future and All Weather Windows is proud to be one of the first manufacturers in North America to launch this innovation. Apex, our most recently introduced product line, was designed and engineered for V-weld and we are excited to introduce this ground-breaking technology.

The Old Way: Box-to-Box or Modular Construction and Mechanical Mullion

In the past, combination windows were assembled through Box-to-Box, modular construction or through the use of mechanical mullions. These methods delivered lower performance than single windows leading to several disadvantages including:

  • Limited structural integrity
  • Water leaks
  • Air leaks
  • To create combination windows, we required gaskets and silicone to seal windows effectively. However, this method did not properly seal windows from the external elements.

Most window companies in North America use this method of window construction.

Over the years, All Weather Windows implemented innovative ways to improve the performance of their windows; however, the traditional system has its limitations.

    The New Way: V-weld Technology

After several years of research, All Weather Windows has found a solution. We have embraced a revolutionary technology called V-weld

V-weld basically eliminates the need for Box-to-Box construction, and mechanical mullions will soon be a thing of the past.

Since all joints are welded together, there is no need for gaskets or silicone to seal the windows. The V-welded mullion virtually eliminates air and water leaks from combination windows. With a V-weld, each window opening performs as an individual window even though V-weld windows are built in combination.

The V-weld is also easier to install, offering an advantage to dealers and contractors.

    V-weld: Continuous Improvements

Higher standards in building codes mean that windows of the future are expected to achieve higher performance. In order to stay ahead of the curve, All Weather Windows has adopted this technology that allows for significant improvements in the structural integrity of windows. Windows constructed using a V-weld deliver the highest structural performance figures.

Comparative testing with temperature variation ranging from -30ºC to 68ºC was conducted on windows with mechanical mullions versus V-welded mullions.

Results have shown that contraction and expansion of the mechanical mullion led to a deterioration at the point of contact between the mullion and the window frame. This deterioration allowed for a significant increase in airflow and therefore a reduction in the performance of the window. These test results demonstrate the advancement V-weld brings to the window manufacturing process and the increased performance consumers can expect.

By virtually eliminating air and water leaks, All Weather Windows products using V-weld stand alone in performance standards.

As a company that strives to remain ahead of the game, our goal remains to consistently offer innovative and superior quality windows and doors while providing the best service in the industry
